Phylene is a Dutch designer of felt clothing, hats, scarves and purses. She is considered to be a top designer in this medium and her creations are worn by many dutch women, as well as those from abroad.
"In 2005, I was captured by a picture in a magazine. It showed a silk scarf with felted flowers on it and I loved it. I looked for, and found the artist who made the scarf. I wanted to know all about her, and about the way she creates felt. I had no idea at all. but I soon found out it is a real craft!"
"In the Spring of 2009, Jan Major asked me if I was interested in starting a new shop/atelier with her, and I was thrilled! I had just left another atelier, so I was looking for a new place to work and sell my products. In December 2009 we opened Artwear Jordaan, where we sell Jans jewelry, hats and scarves from Catrien Sturm and jackets, scarves and bags from my hand!"
"I specialise in felted jackets. They are made out of 100% wool or from Nuno felt, which means it is wool on a thin background of cotton or silk. Nuno means fabric in Japanese. In this way, the felt never becomes stiff, but remains very soft and flexible!"

Before moving to Amsterdam, Jan designed jewelry in America. She received training in jewelry design from various art & design schools yet only began designing jewelry commercially after she became a lawyer. As she says, "designing jewelry allowed me to balance the creative with the intellectual, without sacrificing either."
Her unique and creative jewelry has been carried by America's
Saks 5th Avenue, numerous boutiques, department stores, museum shops and fine jewelry stores.
The jewelry she designs is made of high quality components, using semi-precious stones such as jade, turquoise, quartz, lapis, coral, onyx, citrine, and amethyst with precious metals. Antique chinese beads, pendants and charms, often with ancient symbolism, are sometimes incorporated resulting in unique, highly collectible and truly heirloom jewelry.
Her belief is that women should buy a few quality pieces of jewelry, rather than many pieces of costume jewelry. Quality pieces enhance a womans image, reflect her self value, last a lifetime and, if desired, can be redesigned as styles change.
